Las Vegas Freebie Country Music Concerts at The Fremont Street Experience
Hi All,
The world of Country Music focuses on Las Vegas this weekend as the 43rd annual Academy Of Country Music Awards (ACMs) are held on Sunday, May 18th at 5 p.m. at the MGM Grand. As you walk around Vegas the next couple of days, if you see someone who looks like "someone famous"... they just might be.
If you aren't going to the pricey Academy Of Country Music Awards show itself, or the ACM All-Star Jam post-show, you can treat yourself to some great country music for FREE!
The free Las Vegas Country music concerts are all being held Friday night May 16th and Saturday night May 17th at The Fremont Street Experience in Downtown Las Vegas. Here's the announced schedule:
Friday May 16th:
Whiskey Falls 6:30 p.m.
James Otto 7:45 p.m.
Keith Anderson 9:00 p.m.
Randy Owen 10:30 p.m.
Saturday May 17th:
The Lost Trailers 6:30 p.m.
Heidi Newfield 7:45 p.m.
Billy Currington 9 p.m.
Sugarland 10:30 p.m.
Editor's Note: I am especially glad to see Sugarland performing here for free as they owe us big time. Last June they were supposed to play in Denver with Kenny Chesney and Pat Green and didn't show supposedly due to Jennifer Nettles being ill, yet she was well enough to play a much bigger show in Utah right after ours. The Dick's Sporting Goods Park never let us know about the cancellation and continued to show pictures of Sugarland throughout the show on the side boards.
Kenny Chesney played dumb and just tried to brush the whole thing aside with a wish for Jennifer to feel better. And it's not like Kenny Chesney played any longer to make up for it--in fact he played shorter! So last year Denver fans only got two acts after being charged a ticket price for a triple bill. What a rip! Now that we moved out of Colorado, it looks like we finally can collect on the show we are owed!
Not that I hold a grudge :)
5/18 Update: Saw Sugarland last night and they put on a terrific show--playing about 1:20--a lot more than I would have thought for a free concert and Jennifer Nettles was in great voice, and she in Kristian Busch were high energy and fun to watch as always. They have redeemed themselves in my eyes and made good on the concert issue from last Summer in Denver.
Only downside was I went earlier to see Billy Currington as the opening act in essence, and he was MIA. And The Fremont Street Experience is a very tough place to see a show. The main drag was packed and even though we stood on a side street in a good spot, security failed to enforce the "pedestrians keep moving" rule in the pedestrian walkway they set up, so what was a good out of the way view, was mostly blocked as stoned and drunk tall people (why couldn't they at least have been short stoned drunk people) who were not even Sugarland fans got in the way.
Plus, there were numerous fights and a couple of arrests we witnessed directly--Jennifer Nettles even had to stop during "Who Says You Can't Go Home" minus Jon Bon Jovi (don't worry Jon, your job is safe--Kristian is a talented guy but can't compare to your lead vocal) and wait for a fight close to the stage to be broken up. We caught glimpses now and then of Sugarland and fortunately the concert was shown on the Fremont Street Experience screens overhead which was the saving grace.
