Hi All
UPDATE 12/18: Well the final Las Vegas snowstorm of 2008 result was a record snowfall of 3.6 inches at McCarran airport, closing the airport and keeping my Mother-in-law from arriving for a visit to Vegas today until later tomorrow. Some of you might be tempted to make a comment about that, but I really like my Mother-in-law.
In my area, the Las Vegas snow switched over to rain around midnight, so we probably got about 2 inches or so. As Annie sang "the sun will come out tomorrow" and it is out already with the little snow that's left melting fast. I did find one last cute Las Vegas snow picture to share. Some lucky kid had enough snow to make a snowman! Now that will need to last for about another twenty years.
UPDATE 12/17: NO prediction of snow in Las Vegas today, so of course it's coming down worse than on December 15th. What started as innocent flurries has now become accumulation on the sidewalks, roads and pretty much anything outside! As I write this, it's 5 p.m. and it's still snowing. 3 inches are predicted now! Yikes! Might as well be back in Colorado where I was living last year.
And since we've no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Here are some pix from earlier today for your amusement:
12/15: A rare Las Vegas happening is snow. Today, on the 30-year anniversary of a 3-inch Las Vegas snow accumulation, it's coming down pretty good today in Vegas. It's currently only sticking to the nearby mountains and plants like this Yucca I show, so no need for snow tires or boots.
It's been alternating between rain, rain mixed with snow, and all snow. When it comes down as all snow, it has been in big clumps that look like fake snow which allowed me to pick it up in the photo you see here.
It's kind of cool when you don't have to commute and get to experience it through your window so it's like you're living in a snow globe. Nothing like what I experienced living in Colorado or New York.
Personally, I think it happened because I was telling my young niece in Florida that it doesn't really snow in Vegas.
Welcome to the Las Vegas snowstorm of 2008 :)
